We don’t have some old-school story to tell you how BTDT runs back through ten million generations of family history. We’ve got plenty of stories to tell, but they’re mainly to put a smile on your face and make your day a bit brighter. We don’t believe our sunglasses will ‘save the world’ one pair at a time, but we hope to build a culture that acts that way. It’s on all of us to make this world a beautiful place. We’re all so different. We all have so much we can give. It’s an amazing thing to see thousands of people all together, sharing in a little window. Give more, share more and do more. Do what you can, because the more you do the more others will do for you.
At BTDT we want life to be fun, full of stupid things like glitter and glow sticks, and spent trying to find out the person you are. Our lives can be burdened with expectations of what we ‘should’ be accomplishing; of what we ‘should’ be doing with our time. But you know what? Life was never meant to be a burden, and what we’re sold isn’t always the be all and end all. Just like being told that 99% fat free is good for you, or that fifteen minutes a day on the ab-athon pro IV is going to turn your stomach into a mountainous range or rock-hard abs. There is a lot of bullshit and it’s up to you to make up your own mind. Listen to people but challenge their thinking and learn. Learn as much as you can. Do as much as you can. Live it. Fill it. Love it.
We want to share in the good times with you. Whether it be going to music festivals, or rocking out your iPod while riding to work there is always something shiny in the periphery. Being weird is being cool and expressing yourself is even better. It’s our goal to create an outlet for people to express themselves in ways that share in the good times. Life can never be too colourful, and we’re all just trying to figure it out one day at a time.
Look after yourself and look after your friends. Eat well. Do exercise. Work hard and party harder. Visit your grandparents. Give someone a smile. Say thank you. Find things out for yourself and make up your own mind. Don’t take drugs if you don’t want to. And if you do, be responsible and have fun. Try to meet new people when you can. You’ll be amazed how cool a stranger can be.
The best advice I ever had while dying on the phones in a call centre. Go to as many music festivals as you can, while you can. They are the kind of fantastic beautiful craziness that dreams are made of. And most of all, don’t give up. Even if you reach a point when you’ve fallen into the black and can’t find a way out, don’t give up. Let that be liberating, not debilitating, and take it upon yourself to see what you can find out. Meaningless or not, existing is one of the coolest thing anyone could possibly imagine. There are always stresses and challenges that need to be met head on. But they’re the bits that make you stronger. Whether you’re just eighteen, thirty or even kicking back in retrospect of a successful career it’s never too late to embrace the neon.
We are so lucky to exist, that it’s hard to imagine why life can’t be one fantastic party.
